Set contents: • 2x Actinidia arguta 'Chang Bai Giant' • Pot size: 1-liter pot • Height at delivery: 20–40 cm (indicative) About the variety: Actinidia arguta is a fast-growing climbing plant that winds itself around a support with flexible shoots. The plant can eventually reach a height of 6 to 8 meters and forms long shoots of 2 to 3 meters annually. The leaves are oval and dark green in color. In autumn, they turn yellow, which adds extra ornamental value. The flowers appear in May. This variety produces exclusively female flowers and therefore requires a male pollinator, such as a male kiwi berry Actinidia arguta ‘Weiki’, to produce fruit. The fruits are large, slightly flattened, and can reach a length of 4 to 5 cm. They weigh up to approximately 20 grams and ripen around October. The first fruit set can usually be expected 3 to 4 years after planting. Care The kiwi berry grows best in a warm, sunny, and sheltered location. Protection against wind is important for good growth and fruit set. The plant prefers nutritious, humus-rich, and well-drained soil that remains sufficiently moist. Regular watering is important, especially during dry periods. Due to its strong growth, it is important to guide the plant along a sturdy structure, such as a pergola, trellis, or taut wires. Pruning Pruning is important to control growth and fruit production. In winter, the plant can be pruned back to maintain its structure. In summer, light pruning may be performed to guide growth and retain light within the plant. Winter care Actinidia arguta is quite hardy, but young shoots and flowers can be sensitive to late spring frosts. A sheltered location helps to limit damage. Use of the fruit The kiwiberries of 'Chang Bai Giant' are very suitable for eating fresh. Due to their smooth skin, they do not need to be peeled. Additionally, they can be used in desserts, fruit salads, or jam. For enthusiasts of climbing plants and fruit-bearing varieties, this kiwiberry can be successfully combined with other small fruit varieties or additional pollinators.
