Next, test the finder by turning it on using the small rotary control on the side. Look through the front aperture and verify the red dot is visible. Adjust brightness using the rotary control, which also serves as the on/off switch. Set up your telescope as usual, but install the red dot finder in place of the standard optical finder. Point the telescope at a distant object such as a TV aerial or chimney. Using a low-power eyepiece (25mm recommended), locate and center the object in the field of view by adjusting the telescope and focusing. Use slow motion controls to precisely center the object. Adjust the red dot finder using the two adjustment knobs so the red dot aligns exactly with the centered object. The front knob adjusts left/right, and the rear knob adjusts up/down. Turn off the finder and wait until dark for nighttime use. To use, turn on the finder and look through the viewing window, aligning the red dot with your intended target. When the red dot is directly over the star or planet, the object should appear in the center of the eyepiece view. Remember to turn off the finder after locating your target to conserve battery life.
