Ultralight Map Compass with Adjustable Declination and Ruler

Engineered for efficiency, this 36 g baseplate compass delivers full orienteering functionality without bulk. The baseplate includes a straightedge with millimetre and inch calibrations, a rotating bezel with clearly marked declination offset zone, and a fixed 3× magnifier lens located precisely over the map-measurement zone. Six edge scales support metric, imperial, and standard UK/EU map ratios. The compass card rotates smoothly on a jewelled pivot with fluid damping for consistent performance in wind or cold. The declination scale is aligned parallel to the orienting lines, enabling intuitive visual matching between local declination value and bezel marker — no mental math required. The magnifier’s focal length matches typical map paper thickness and viewing distance, minimising parallax error when pinpointing features. All scales are printed with anti-smudge ink resistant to moisture and abrasion. Used by Mountain Training instructors, Scout leaders, and long-distance trail runners across England, Wales, and the Alps. Validated for durability in rain, frost, and repeated pocket carry — with no moving parts beyond the bezel to fail or jam.
